By default, all ports are blocked except for 21 (FTP), 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS). Adding an IP address will allow port 22 (SSH), 3306 (MySQL) and phpMyAdmin access to your server.
You can enter either add a single IP address or a range of IP addresses using a slash. For example 176.56.56.1 or 176.56.56.0/23.
First you need to log into the Nimbus Hosting platform. Once logged in, you will be taken to the dashboard.
From the dashboard click on Security. If you manage multiple servers, you'll have to select the server on which you need to allow access to get to its server dashboard.
Click the Add IP button from within the Allowed IPs section.
Enter your public IP address into the IP Address field.
The hosting platform will automatically detect the IP address you are currently accessing from and fill in this field for you. If you are unsure what your public IP address is you can find this out by simply typing "what is my IP address" into Google.
Enter a name into the Name field. This can be anything you like and is just a reference. For example "My Home". Also, Select an Expiry date from the drop down menu. Select Never if you don't want the Allowed IP to expire.
Selecting an expiry date is useful for when you want to provide temporary access to the server. For example if you were giving out server access details to a third party and only wanted them to have access for a specific amount of time.
Lastly click the Create record button.
Please note that for remote MySQL access to work you will still need to enable this from within the platform. Instructions for this can be found here.
You can remove the Allowed IP prior to the expiry by clicking the 'X' to the right of the relevant IP.
